No Gi Jiu Jitsu near West Springfield, VA
No gi means training without the kimono. There's no collar and no sleeve to hold, so you learn to control the body itself. Black Cat Jiu Jitsu teaches it at one academy in Springfield. There is no separate West Springfield location.
What you wear and what you practice
You train in a rashguard and shorts instead of a gi. Classes work on body control, underhooks, and timing. The no gi program page has more on how the classes run.
You don't need experience to start
Intro to Jiu Jitsu (No Gi) is its own class on the schedule. You won't be dropped into a mixed-level room and asked to keep up. Beginners start in Intro and move into the mixed-level no gi classes later. If you've trained before, the mixed-level sessions are the ones to ask about.
When Intro no gi meets
Intro no gi runs twice a week. Friday, 6:00 to 7:00 pm, and Saturday, 11:00 am to noon. Mixed-level no gi sessions run on other days, and the weekly class schedule lists all of them.
The West Springfield training guide covers the other classes at the academy.
How to request a trial class
Trial requests are open to DMV residents. The form asks about your experience, what you want out of training, and when you're free. Staff reads it, recommends the class that fits you, and confirms the time. Sending the form is a request, not a booking.
