No-Gi BJJ near Fairfax, VA

Black Cat Jiu Jitsu offers no-gi Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) near Fairfax at our Springfield academy. You train in a rashguard and shorts in place of the gi uniform. Beginners are welcome.

Choosing between Intro and mixed-level no-gi

If you're new to grappling, ask about Intro to Jiu Jitsu (No Gi), the beginner class. It meets Saturday from 11:00 am to noon. If you've trained before, ask us whether Intro or a mixed-level class would fit you. The weekly class schedule lists mixed-level no-gi sessions during the week.

How grips work in no-gi BJJ

Without a collar or sleeve to grip, you use holds on your partner's body. With an underhook, you reach under your partner's arm to guide their upper body. Timing matters because that opening can close as your partner turns. Read more about our no-gi jiu jitsu program.
